Rebecca joined the board in 2009 and is excited to become more involved with the IHF. Rebecca received a BA with a major in Latin American Studies and a minor in Spanish from Dartmouth College in 2003. She then went on to get an MA and PhD in anthropology from Brown University. Rebecca is currently a lecturer in the Social Studies department at Harvard University and teaches courses on violence and immigration. Her research and volunteer work have taken her to Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. She has also taught courses in Latin American studies at Dartmouth College and recently served as a faculty fellow for Dartmouth’s Tucker Foundation’s alternative spring break trip to the Dominican Republic.
Rebecca has long been a friend of the IHF since attending Dartmouth with founders Dave Morse and Amish Parashar, but became more involved when conducting her dissertation fieldwork on the Mexico-Guatemala border. With her husband and former board member, Dan, they spearheaded a partnership that connected a community of returned Guatemalan refugees (Dos Ceibas) with the IHF to help the community fundraise for a community center. While in Chiapas, Mexico, Rebecca and Dan also helped initiate the partnership between Brown students and NGOs and activists in Chiapas. She looks forward to continuing to work with the chapters, their partners, donors, and the board.
